Featured by SBID - The Residence, York Project
We’re pleased to see The Residence project recently featured by the Society of British & International Interior Design.
Recognition from SBID is always meaningful, not only as an acknowledgement of the finished work, but of the thinking behind it - the decisions around proportion, flow and function that shape how a space comes together.
A landmark setting in York
The Residence is set within the Grade II listed former Terry’s Chocolate Factory - one of York’s most recognisable buildings.
Positioned within a large-scale penthouse, the apartment looks out across the racecourse, York Minster, Bishopthorpe Palace and the wider Yorkshire landscape. It’s a setting with both presence and history, which naturally informed the direction of the design.
Working with scale, proportion and flow
With high ceilings, wall-to-wall windows and well-proportioned rooms, the space offered a strong architectural foundation, but also required careful consideration to ensure it felt balanced and usable day to day.
The design focused on creating a layout that could flex easily between entertaining, relaxing and working. Thoughtful zoning allows each area to function independently, while still feeling connected across the open plan.
A bespoke media unit anchors the main living space, incorporating a built-in fire and inset marble surround. Its scale was carefully considered to sit comfortably within the room, bringing a sense of structure without overwhelming the space.

A home shaped around its owners
Our clients, having recently downsized, wanted a space that felt both practical and personal.
The approach was to introduce timeless pieces alongside their existing belongings, creating a home that reflects their lifestyle and the way they use the space.
Recognition of a considered approach
Projects such as this are not about imposing a particular style, but about working with what already exists - the building, the scale and the people who will live there.
Being featured by SBID reflects that approach, recognising a way of working that is rooted in understanding, proportion and longevity.
