Bootham, York

bespoke cabinetry crafted for calm

Bootham House - a handsome property with great bones and generous proportions deserved a scheme that works beautifully day to day. Just steps from the Minster, this Georgian landmark became a first home for our client who wanted life to feel easy with cosy nights in, space to gather friends, and a home that simply works. Trusted by the family from working together on other projects, we were brought in early to deliver a full turnkey scheme, every detail considered and installed for home handover. A calming palette of natural materials and warm greys, lifted by a subtle green accent that runs through each space, ties the whole design together.

A bespoke media and fireplace wall sets the tone with calm lines, crafted detail and clever storage that hides all the tech. By evening, the fire and recessed lighting create a soft, cinematic glow. The reeded oak detail to the base conceals cupboards and introduces a new design element carried through the property. The kitchen by Grid Thirteen was already in place; here we reworked the lighting to be layered and warm. We designed a bespoke reeded-base feature dining table and commissioned partner Peter Thompson of York who crafted the perfect piece, paired with bespoke dining chairs and bar stools from Whitehead Designs for easy entertaining.

Quiet Luxury, Cleverly Concealed

Bespoke cabinetry continues in the master and guest rooms, with hand-finished curtains on Bradley Collection poles, custom headboards, and handmade beds by The York Bed Company. Armac Martin hardware: a satisfyingly substantial touch and a faultless finish.

Working with Peter Thompson of York, the guest suite transforms into a clutter-free workspace with tailored storage, display shelving and an integrated curved oak desk against a painted bookcase. A custom sideboard conceals deep drawers with gentle under-cabinet light. Dovetail joins, bronze inlays and considered hardware are made by hand and built to last.
