Period cottage, North Yorkshire

Restoring light, love and life to a characterful period cottage

This project breathed new life into a much-loved cottage that had begun to feel disconnected from the couple who called it home. While the character remained, the space no longer supported our clients lifestyle or brought them joy. Our brief was to help them reconnect with home while enhancing the charm that made the cottage so special in the first place.

We began by addressing the essentials, structural repairs and damp issues before gently guiding our clients into the design phase. Sensitive to our clients; initial hesitations around colour, we took a gentle, collaborative approach, introducing uplifting tones room by room. As their confidence grew, so did their boldness, culminating in a rich dark green for the lounge that now feels cocooning and characterful.

Creating an inviting home

Throughout the home, we created bespoke storage tailored to our clients’ lifestyle; a dedicated music wall for cherished cassettes and vinyl, space-efficient cabinetry built into underused alcoves and a serene reading nook on the landing. Every room was thoughtfully rebalanced to feel more joyful, functional and reflect the couple’s personalities and passions.

Now, reimagined as a home they’re proud of, this period cottage, is once again ready to welcome guests, support everyday life and reflect the vibrant lives of the people who live there.

From the very moment she visited our home, Ann was an inspiration – creative, imaginative and always pushing our thinking in design, colour and feel. Ann respected our budget and decisions while delivering a design that felt fresh, contemporary and completely us.”
